Design context

Quay-crane projects share structural patterns but differ in specifications. Changes in rail gauge, lifting height, outreach and equipment arrangement can affect several components and drawings at once. Editing dimensions alone does not guarantee that interfaces and assembly relationships remain valid.

Define the parameters and rules

Separate inputs into project specifications, structural dimensions, equipment selection and output settings. Define units, valid ranges, defaults and dependencies. Link parameters that affect adjacent structures and report unsupported combinations explicitly.

Maintain stable parameter names, configuration names and assembly interfaces in SolidWorks templates. Version templates and rules together so that each generation can be traced to its inputs, models and rules.

Coordinate models, assemblies and drawings

Generate components in dependency order, then update assembly configurations and mates. Update drawings from the verified models and check views, dimensions, bills of materials and title blocks. Preserve failure records so incomplete output is not mistaken for a deliverable.

Verification and handover

Use representative specifications, boundary dimensions and invalid inputs to verify rebuilds, assembly constraints, file references and drawing updates. A project may deliver parameter documentation, template models, automation software, checklists and operating guidance. Parametric generation does not replace engineering checks for load capacity, stability or applicable standards.
