Where it applies

Assembly documentation, maintenance and technical communication require a clear structural view. Manually moving components, switching configurations and entering properties is repetitive. A plug-in can combine structure reading, rule application and result checks in a controlled workflow.

An approach to exploded views

Read the assembly hierarchy, component states and spatial relationships. Group components by subassembly or function, then define presentation order, movement direction and distance. Preserve the ability to return to the original assembly and let the designer review visibility, spacing and sequence.

An automatically generated presentation does not certify a physical disassembly path or safe working procedure. Complex constraints and flexible subassemblies require a separate assessment of applicability.

Write configurations reliably

Before writing, identify the target document, configuration name, property scope and data types, then validate the input. Rebuild and read back the results and check linked drawings. Keep document-level and configuration-level properties separate, and distinguish unsaved state from final output.

Delivery and compatibility

Validate the plug-in against the project's SolidWorks version and templates, including missing configurations, suppressed components, broken references and rebuild failures. Document the supported scope, installation, operation and error handling. A general demonstration does not replace acceptance in the customer's environment.
